Thomas, WV – Stephanie Thompson, a licensed dietitian and consultant at Cortland Acres for the past year, completed a distance learning program with Marshall University to become a registered dietitian (RD). Laboring since July 2018, Thompson completed online classes and twelve hundred supervised hours as a dietetic intern to be able to sit for the RD exam, which she passed on June 8, 2019.
“Achieving the title registered Dietitian is very rewarding,” explains Thompson, “especially since I have been working towards this credential for several years. I hope to continue my education in the field, but right now, it’s just nice to not have any homework for a change.”
As a licensed dietitian with Keegan & Associates, Inc. out of Morgantown, Thompson travels to Cortland Acres three to four times each month and is responsible for recommending resident diets, monitoring intake, advising supplements if warranted, and helping curb weight changes.
“She’s a wonderful addition to our team,” states Cortland Dietary Manager, Charity Phillips. “We are always looking to improve our services to the residents and Stephanie brings even more insight into ways to expand our offerings and promote healthy living.”
