Wynona “Vonda” Hebb VanMeter

Wynona “Vonda” Hebb VanMeter, 92, a resident of the Bretz community, Hambleton, passed from this life Monday, June 24, 2019, at Cortland Acres in Thomas.

Vonda was born on Saturday, April 16, 1927, a daughter of Jasper Lomen Hebb and Villa Grace White Hebb.

On April 10, 1947 at Red House, Md, she was married to Harold Stewart VanMeter who preceded her in death on January 5, 2012. They had celebrated sixty – four years of marriage.

Left to cherish her memory are two grandchildren, Jerry Lee Hardy, Jr. and wife Linda of Belington, and Michael Shawn Hardy and Robin of Bretz; four great grandchildren, Jeffery Hardy and wife, Codi, Heather Gross and husband, Kerry, Hunter Hardy and Hannah Hardy; three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Vonda was preceded in death by one son; Jack Stewart VanMeter; one daughter, Linda Faye VanMeter Hardy; eleven brothers and sisters, Kenneth P. Hebb, Howard Hebb, Hugh Hebb, Nelle Lee, Bessie Canan, June Hebb, Ardith Boling, Faye Lantz, Addie Jo Helmick, Margie Hebb, and Theo Hebb. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She attended the schools of Tucker County and Good Tidings Assembly Church in St. George. She was a homemaker, and she loved to read and enjoyed nature and the outdoors.

Vonda’s request for cremation was honored. A Celebration of Vonda’s life was held at the Good Tidings Assembly of God on Location Road on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 12 noon. Pastor Robert Hebb officiated, and interment of her cremains followed at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Wynona “Vonda” Hebb VanMeter. Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
