To offer all Potomac Highlands children up to the age of 12 a safe, fun and adventurous event this October 31, students at a Eastern WV Community and Technical College will host ‘Trunk-n’-Treat,’ that evening from 5:30 to 7:30. From the trunks and hatchbacks of their vehicles in the college parking lot, they will hand out goodies, greet the treaters, and enjoy the laughter of children as they skip delightedly from trunk to trunk fishing for treats.

“We are strongly urging people throughout our surrounding communities to come be ‘trunkers’, as well,” emphasized Chris Windley, Eastern’s Student Government Association (SGA) president. Anyone interested in decorating a vehicle for the event and handing out candy, should contact Amy Crites for further details at 304-434-8000, ext. 233, he said, or by email to acrites@eastern.wvnet.edu.

The college and the SGA will award prizes for best costumes, best decorated vehicle, best carved pumpkin, and for a special coloring sheet art contest open to children 12 years old and younger. For the art contest, contestants may enter only one coloring sheet each, and may use any design elements they choose. The judges will announce the winners the night of the event, and will award prizes on the basis of creativity in each of three age categories: ages 2-4, 5-7, and 8-12.

To enter the pumpkin carving contest or coloring sheet contest, please see the official rules posted on Eastern’s official website entry page at: www.easternwv.edu/Trunk-N-Treat.

The deadline for the coloring sheet contest prize consideration is October 25, 2013. Submissions received with a postmark after the 25th will qualify for display at the event, but not contest prizes.

To enter, contestants should go the website entry page, download and print out the art worksheet found there, then decorate and design the coloring sheet picture, and return your entry to Eastern. (Contestants may also pick up an entry form at the college.)

To submit entries, either drop off the decorated coloring sheets at the college in person, or mail them to: Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College, Trunk-n’-Treat Drawing Contest, 316 Eastern Drive, Moorefield, WV 26836.

“It’s a lot of fun to put on costumes and disguises, meet friends at parties, and eat the tasty sweets from trick-or-treating,” noted Eleanor Berg, Eastern’s nursing program director. “We can also give out healthy treats, like fruits, nuts and raisins, and make sure our children have fun being active and staying safe.”

For more information about Eastern’s community education and events, financial aid opportunities, programs of study and workforce training, call  304-434-8000; or toll free: 877-982-2322; or check the College’s website: www.easternwv.edu.

Serving the residents of Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Pendleton and Tucker counties, and fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College is a comprehensive and equal opportunity community and technical college bringing the resources and assets of Education That Works to the families, communities and employers of the Potomac Highlands.
