Votes from the local community will help determine grand prize winner

Parsons – Tucker County Animal Shelter earned a spot in the fourth annual Tournament of Tails, an online contest hosted by Petplan pet insurance. The organization is one of 32 competitors vying for a share of a $10,900 purse — and is rallying the local community to vote them to the finals in the bracket-inspired tournament.

Adoptable pets will represent each competing organization in daily “nose-to-nose” matchups. Fans can view each pet’s picture and story before voting to decide who advance to the next round.

Representing Tucker County Animal Shelter in the tournament will be 3 year old Staffordshire mix Brutus. The MVP (Most Valuable Pet’s) first matchup is March 21. With enough votes from the community, Brutus can advance all the way to the championship matchup on Monday, April 3 — and win the $5,000 grand prize donation!

No matter who comes out on top, every pet is a winner, earning their shelter a donation based on where their tournament run ends:

  • $100 for “Terrific 32” finalists
  • $200 for the “Spirited 16”
  • $300 for the “Eager 8”
  • $500 for the “Final Fur”

“Tournament of Tails is a fun way to raise awareness for shelter pets while playing off of the country’s fascination with the college basketball tournament,” says Natasha Ashton, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan.

“Tournament of Tails is a fun way to raise awareness for shelter pets while playing off of the country’s fascination with the college basketball tournament,” says Natasha Ashton, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan.“We’re proud to support the compassionate and important work that organizations like Tucker County Animal Shelter do on behalf of pets everywhere.”
“Donations through this amazing tournament will go toward a new fenced area for our dogs to play. Currently we have no extensive area for them to enjoy being outside and are hoping very much to change this soon,” says Cathy Parsons, Director of the shelter.

Tucker County Animal Shelter encourages pet lovers to visit the Tournament of Tails website at www.gopetplan.com/tournament-of-tails to learn more about Brutus’ amazing story and to cast their vote.

Tucker County Animal Shelter is a no kill shelter that provides a warm, safe, and loving environment for unwanted and abandoned pets while trying to find permanent homes for them. Open everyday from 8am to 1pm, we are located at 586 Brooklyn Heights Road in Parsons.

The shelter is always in need of donations which are tax-deductible. All donations go directly to help the shelter dogs and cats and cover veterinary expenses and shelter operations. Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, we accept all animals at the Tucker County Animal Shelter. None are turned away.
