ELKINS, W.Va. – Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center has recognized Janie Haderman, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for providing exceptional compassionate care after receiving a heartfelt nomination from a patient.

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families through clinical excellence and compassionate care.

Haderman, a member of the hospital’s Clinical Decision Unit, was praised for her attentiveness, professionalism and proactive approach during the patient’s hospital stay.

“Throughout the entire day shift, I did not have to press my call button once,” the patient shared in the nomination. “Janie consistently anticipated my needs and even identified ways to make me more comfortable. Water was brought without me having to ask, medications and IV care were handled promptly, and everything that was done was thoroughly explained so I could fully understand what was happening. Taking the time to explain each step helped ease my nerves and significantly reduced my anxiety during a stressful situation.”

“Being recognized by a patient in this way is incredibly meaningful,” Haderman said. “I’m grateful to be part of a team that truly cares about making patients feel comfortable, informed and supported during difficult moments. Small acts of kindness and taking the time to listen can make a big difference, and I’m honored to be able to provide that care to our patients.”

“Janie’s dedication, clinical attentiveness and commitment to teamwork reflect the exceptional standard of care provided throughout Davis Medical Center,” said Diana Landsverk, RN, BSN, MBA, Chief Administrative Officer of Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center. “The impact that nurses and caregivers have on patients during vulnerable moments cannot be overstated, and we are proud to recognize Janie for the exceptional care she provides.”

The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family after he died from complications of an autoimmune disease at age 33. The foundation honors nurses internationally through partnerships with health care organizations and nursing schools.

Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center presents the DAISY Award regularly to nurses nominated by patients, families and colleagues for outstanding compassionate care.
