The Tucker County Commission appointed Jon Bush to fill the vacancy of Patrick Darlington.

Commission President Lowell Moore said that a total of 15 individuals applied last month for the Shavers Fork seat vacated when Darlington resigned.

“We are excited to welcome Jon Bush to the Tucker County Commission,” Moore said. “There were many worthy candidates who applied for the open seat. Jon has dedicated his work life, and outside-of-work life to the betterment of our community.”

Moore and Commissioner Fred Davis unanimously voted at its Wednesday, June 19 meeting to have Bush to fill the remainder of Darlington’s term. Darlington is moving to Eastern Panhandle to pursue a new career opportunity.

Bush’s business skills gives him a unique ability to be a good steward over the county’s resources. Bush owns Piccolo Paula’s in Parsons and Big John’s Family Fixins in Canaan Valley with his wife, Paula. He also was the 2017 Tucker County Entrepreneurs’ Pitch Contest winner and customize his Oak Barrel Sirloin process.

“I think I have something to offer to a place where I have lived for over 30 years,” Bush said. “My goal is to be a thoughtful public servant. I want to make sure everyone is heard. I really want to know what people want out of their commissioner and I hope I can deliver that.”

Bush was sworn into office on Wednesday, June 19. He’ll carry out the remainder of Patrick’s term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2020. He will have the opportunity to run for the open seat in the November 2020 election. The winner of that election will then serve the standard six-year staggered term beginning Jan. 1, 2021.
