DRYFORK – One of the newest and upcoming sports is available right here in Tucker County! FootGolf is described as a sport where golf meets soccer and a new course is available in Dryfork. Chip Shots FootGolf, owned by Tim and Paula Worden is open Thursdays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tim Worden said quite a few folks have been coming up to play.
“Each hole has a par, just like golf,” Worden said. “We have nine holes, anywhere from par 3 to par 5. Traditionally, courses have sand traps and water hazards. We have grass traps and if you get into that, you are in trouble.”
Worden said footgolf started in the Netherlands in about 2011 and spread all over Europe. “Now the sport is taking off in the United States,” he said.
The rules of footgolf largely correspond to golf rules except the ball used is a soccer ball. “You kick the ball instead of using golf clubs – it’s much easier to learn than golf. Just about anyone can play. We have had children as young as 3-years-old and many grandparents playing,” Worden said. “There are about six footgolf courses in West Virginia.”
Like golf, the lowest score in footgolf wins.
Chip Shots FootGolf is located in Dryfork. From Davis, follow Route 32 South for about 12 miles and turn onto Route 72. Chip Shots FootGolf is about one mile down the road on the left at 16320 Dryfork Road.
Worden said folks can bring their own soccer balls. “If you don’t have one, don’t worry. We have plenty here,” he said. “Typically it takes about an hour to move through the nine-hole course.”
