Ava Collar, a resident of Parsons, is a contestant for the Miss West Virginia Nationwide 2018. She has been competing in pageants since she was about 16 years old. After competing in the America system for years she decided to compete in the Nationwide system because they don’t have a talent portion.
60% of her score comes from the interview, on stage questions, and platform presentation. Collar said, “The fact that over half of the score comes from my intelligence and ability to speak and represent myself made me want to give this system a try, and I am beyond excited and grateful to have the opportunity to represent my state at the national competition.
Collar is holding a fundraiser to off set costs and donate to charity. She said, ” I am directing Little Miss Heart of West Virginia pageant as a fundraiser to help cover my expenses as I travel in June to represent West Virginia and compete for the title of Miss Nationwide 2018. This pageant is also serving as a fundraiser for Harmony House.”
The Little Miss Heart of West Virginia pageant is open to all little girls in the state of West Virginia who are newborn through 13 years old. The pageant will be held February 10 at the Tucker Country High School. The entry fee for this pageant is $40 until January 6. After January 6 the entry fee increases to $50. Every child who enters will receive a prize just for competing.
There is only one phase of competition, and that’s a dress of your choice. This pageant is about having fun while building confidence and raising money for a great cause. The pageant will start at 11 a.m., and admission to watch the pageant is $5 a person. Children 10 and under, as well as visiting royalty in crown and sash, will be admitted for free.
Collar stated, “The profits from this pageant will be split between funding my trip to nationals to represent West Virginia as I compete for the title of Miss Nationwide 2018, and Harmony House. Harmony House is an organization based in Huntington West Virginia that has the goal of ending homelessness in southern West Virginia. They provide food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, and many other forms of support to those in need in our state.
