Recently, Tucker County Clerk, Sherry Simmons, was commended for her efforts to enhance access to Tucker County’s public records by Governor Earl Ray Tomblyn. The improvements Simmons has made will provide better government service to constituents interested in the business and historical transactions of county government.
The Records Management and Preservation Board 2014-2015 Grant recently awarded $16,045 to purchase roller shelving for the Land Books that are stored in the County Clerk’s vault. This will improve the management and preservation of the county’s records for the benefit of its citizens.
Tucker County Clerk Sherry Simmons, with her continuing efforts, is already working for additional grant monies for the coming year for rebinding and encapsulation of more county record books. Simmions, “I feel it is my duty, as the county clerk, to preserve the history of Tucker County.”
This past year grant money was used to rebind and encapsulate Weddings Book Number 1 and two of the first land books for the county at a cost of $5,000.
