The ice cream stand at Brenda’s Backyard Grill is open for business with a restaurant soon to follow. Phil Nestor and his wife Brenda are in the process of renovating the building located at 38 Cheat Valley Highway in Parsons, formerly Fox’s Pizza, to house the ice cream stand and a new restaurant, which will offer an “eclectic mix” of foods. The ice cream stand will be seasonal, but the restaurant will be open year round.

Nestor stated, “When the opportunity presented itself, we decided to open a restaurant that would offer the public something different.” Because of the intensity of the building renovation and the seasonal nature of the business, the family decided to open the ice cream stand first. Initial hours will be 4-9 p.m. weekdays and 2-9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Brenda’s offers serve cones, sundaes, milkshakes, cyclones, hot fudge brownies, shaved ice and other frozen treats.

Nestor explained, “After working in the food service industry for many years, Brenda is eager to establish her own restaurant. It is a family business. Our son, Aaron will also play an important role by helping with the business aspect of the restaurant. The community has been very encouraging as we prepare to open. We really appreciate the support we’ve had so far from our family and friends.” The family plans to open the restaurant within the next few months, depending on the progress of the renovation. It will offer the “staples of an all American grill” with homestyle meals and specialties. Nestor concluded, “We’re not in it for the competition. We’re just doing the best with what we have and hope to provide a good product for a decent price.”
