The  County Commission meeting heard updates from around the county and closed out this year’s business.

County Clerk Sherry Simmons provided on update on the scanning of death certificates. “We’ve been quite busy with scanning death certificates,” she said.  After the clerk’s office scans each death certificate, an official certification is printed at the bottom.

Office of 911 Director Brett Ware updated the Commission on the work on the radio tour.  “As far as our situation goes with the radio tour, we are still working on some loose ends, trying to get all the frequencies coordinated.”

Computer aided dispatch calls were down about 33 percent from last month, “which is good, less emergencies,” Ware said.  There were 317 total requests for emergency services, which Ware estimated was a low monthly figure.  The Office of 911 is currently accepting applications for part time dispatchers.

The Animal Shelter is currently taking care of 11 dogs, six of which are in foster homes.  There are 64 cats at the shelter.  The shelter just received 500 pounds of dog food.  Shop and Save was the shelter’s biggest donor during the holiday parade.

A new towing services ordinance was approved.  New changes to this ordinance include: owners must be notified that they are responsible for the wrecker fee once they are called, and the new ordinance supersedes any conflicting ordinances.

January 18 is Tucker County Day.  “I think that is one of the highlights for Tucker County, I encourage anybody and everybody to attend at least part of that day if they can,” Commission President Lowell Moore said.  The Commission approved a funding request of $750 to the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce for Tucker County Day.

The Commission approved board appointments for Hamrick Public Services District, Tucker County Historical Society, and the Animal Shelter.  Ben Kisamore’s position in the maintenance department was changed to chief.

The new roof is complete at the Thomas Community Center.  This building serves as an emergency shelter for the county.

The next County Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 2 at 8 a.m.
