Among those in attendance at the Tucker County Board of Education was newly elected member, Teresa Simmons. Simmons will hold the seat through this school year until June. The remaining two year term for the seat will then need to be voted on with the May ballot. Anyone wishing to be placed on the ballot needs to do so before the election deadline.
The mask mandate has been placed back in effect at the schools. At the time of the meeting there were 29 active COVID cases in the school. Of these 29 active cases 22 were students and seven were staff. There were also 67 quarantine cases. Of those 67 cases 63 were students and four were staff. Superintendent Alicia Lambert said to expect the COVID cases to peak at the end of February with cases doubling weekly.
DTEMS eighth grade students will be happy to know they are going to The Great Wolf Lodge in Ohio. Students will be making the trip on May through 24. Students taking driver’s education will also be excited to know a new vehicle has been purchased. The new Jeep was purchased for $19,875 with only 42,000 miles. The Jeep has been equipped with passenger side brakes for the instructor.
There were some personnel changes the board voted all in favor of: Gwen Rapp will be secretary at DTEMS effective January 11; Daniele Pennington is resigning as Head Track Coach; effective with the 2021-2022 school year head baseball coach at TVEMS will be Thomas Evans; and Kevin Gill will take over as executive secretary at TCBOE central office effective January 20.
The next regular meeting of the Tucker County Board of Education will be Monday February 7 at 4:30 p.m.at the Tucker County Board of Education office at 100 Education Lane, Parson.
