Drive down Douglas Road in Thomas to view a more artistic approach to fall than even nature can provide. The Art of Autumn Exhibit is currently showing until Thanksgiving at Buxton and Landstreet Gallery and Studios.
The gallery’s manager, Cat Hainfeld, implemented the new idea this year. “For all of our Leaf Peepers who came out to enjoy the fall, now you can take a piece home with you,” Hainfeld said.
The exhibit houses stacks of photographs featuring sweeping highland landscapes, artwork containing found objects indicative of fall, luminescent glasswork, and collages of yellow, orange, and red. The majority of the art displayed in the exhibit is from local artists like Randall Sanger, Kent Mason, and Bruce Wilson.
“It is a collection of all of our fall themed artwork, paintings, photographs, pastels,” Hainfeld said. All fall photography is 10 percent off during the show.
Visitors to the gallery are encouraged to paint a pumpkin, provided by Country Farm Market. Residents of Davis and Thomas can take a pumpkin home for free. According to the gallery’s advertisement, “Decorate one as a family, and we’ll proudly display it in the gallery, as part of our Great Pumpkin Show.” After the show, residents can take their pumpkin home. Cider and cookies are provided on the weekends.
Hainfeld is new to the gallery; she was named the manager this past summer. Rental studio space is offered in the back of the building for classes, workshops, and artists. Equipment for jewelry making, ceramics, fiber arts, stained glass, lamp work, and printing are available for use. “It’s an important community resource that we have here,” Hainfeld said.
Buxton and Landstreet is owned by the Vandalia Heritage Foundation, which focuses on historic preservation, real estate, and economic stimulation in communities that, according to their website, “have seen better times.”
After the Art of Autumn Exhibit, Buxton and Landstreet will host a Christmas themed exhibit. Buxton and Landstreet Gallery and Studios is located at 571 Douglas Road in Thomas.
