A fire in a remote area of Tucker County was contained to approximately an acre of ground. The fire originated at a camp on Slab Camp Road off Pheasant Run Road. According to Parsons Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Kevin White, 15 units and 40 men worked to contain the fire.

It is suspected that an ember from an outdoor fire pit sparked the dry leaves and started the fire. A camp owned by the Bruneo family from New Jersey lost a wood shed and out house. The fire surrounded two neighboring camps and the crews worked to save those structures.

White stated, “We had so many units and crew members on the scene because of the remoteness of the area and water supply. If the fire had gotten out of control, it would have been really bad.”

Along with the PVFD, crews from Davis, Thomas, Leading Creek and Elkins responded to the area. One unit from Tucker County EMS with two crew members, one Tucker County Deputy, one WV Forestry agent and one DNR agent were also on the scene.

The call came in at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, April 20 and the crew from PVFD returned to station at 3 p.m.
