Tucker Homeland Security Emergency Management was notified by Tucker County 911 of flash flooding in areas of Tucker County at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Thomas and Davis along with areas in Canaan Valley and Harman had reported several inches of rain in a four hour period with roadways becoming impassable.
Tucker County Emergency Operations Center was activated around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning in efforts to get information and resources to the first responders in the field. Local fire,EMS and law enforcement were made aware of several cases of residents and guest that had became cut off by flood waters in the Dry Fork , Leadmine and Seven Islands areas of the county. Crews worked into midday Sunday assisting in evacuations of those in need.
“Truly things went as planned in times of need.” stated Director Kevin White. Local Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Tucker County 911 and County elected officials came together in a time of need to work for our residents and guest.
“It has to be a team effort. No one entity can do this alone.” stated White. Damage assessment will continue into the week with reports being sent into the state. No major infrastructure damage has been reported as of Sunday night.
