Golden Anchor Grand Opening

New owners Jamie and Daniel Marsh celebrated the Golden Anchors grand opening, on Friday, Aug. 15, with good food and live music. Although this is the first restaurant they have owned, Mr. and Mrs. Marsh are no strangers to business; Daniel is the owner of “The Sign Guy”, a sign making business located in their hometown of Buckhannon, WV.

Jamie and Daniel first visited The Golden Anchor while staying in one of the cabins on the property in celebration of their one year wedding anniversary. During their stay they met the former owner, Ron, who surprisingly remembered Daniel from an inquiry Ron had made about a sign ten years before. Ron again mentioned the possibility of a new sign, but stated that he was trying to sell the business.

Jamie and Daniel already knew that they loved the area, and they liked the idea of taking over The Golden Anchor. Jamie had been looking for a career change, she liked the freedom and pride that comes with owning your own business. Everything “fell into place” said Jamie. “It was the right fit for us” they agreed.

Driving up to The Golden Anchor the gilded letters of the new sign catch your eye. If you look closely you can see tiny dogwood saplings starting to grow on either side of the sign. When the previous owner, Ron, had purchased the establishment he and his mother had planted a tree by the original sign. After many years, the tree had grown too large and was blocking the sign. When Jamie and Daniel bought the business the tree had to go. To honor the former owner and remember the history of The Golden Anchor Jamie and Daniel’s mothers visited and each planted a dogwood sapling with their respective child.

The second big change was a new website with professional photographs and online booking, a time-saving process that benefits both the owners and the cabin guests. They have plans for the future that focus on community involvement and working with other local businesses, but for now Jamie and Daniel are focused on making The Golden Anchor their own.

We can all look forward to more live music, fresh seafood, and warm comforting dishes when the chill of winter sets in. Keep your eye on The Golden Anchor, good thing are on the horizon!
