The 2023 4-H and FFA Livestock Auction was held as part of the Tucker County Fair on Saturday evening, August 26th. The evening began with the Dessert Auction which saw many desserts sell for an average of $50. However some desserts such as a Apple Caramel Cake sold for $160, a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie sell for $90 and Grandma Knotts Butterscotch Pie sell for $70. An unused Baby Book that was won at the Fair in 1937 was auctioned off as well at the event and brought a final bid of $20.
The livestock auction saw many of the small animals donated back to the participants following sale. Below are the final sale information for the Champions and Reserve Champions at the Livestock Auction.
Market Steers
Grand Champion: Tate Mullinax with a steer weighing in at 1386 pounds. A final bid of $2.40 a pound was received for a total cost of $3,326.40.
Reserve Champion: Braxton Smith with a steer weighing in at 1222 pounds. A final bid of $2.30 a pound was received for a total cost of $2,810.60.
Market Duck
Grand Champion: Ava Wilfong with a final bid of $500.
Reserve Champion: Abby Wilfong with a final bid of $500.
Feeder Steers
Grand Champion: Maci Owens with a steer weighing in at 556 pounds. A final bid of $2.90 a pound was received for a total cost of $1,612.40.
Reserve Champion: Delbert Wilkins with a steer weighing in at 592 pounds. A final bid of $3.10 a pound was received for a total cost of $1,835.20.
Market Turkey
Grand Champion: Abby Wilfong with a final bid of $600.
Reserve Champion: Ava Wilfong with a final bid of $500.
Feeder Heifers
Grand Champion: Marlee Evans with a heifer weighing in at 510 pounds. A final bid of $3.15 a pound was received for a total cost of $1,606.50.
Reserve Champion: Sidney Vandervender with a heifer weighing in at 477 pounds. A final bid of $2.70 a pound was received for a total cost of $1,287.90.
Market Goats
Grand Champion: Marlee Evans with a final bid of $700.
Reserve Champion: Shaylea Wolfe with a final bid of $700.
Market Lambs
Grand Champion: Tate Mullinax with a goat weighing 153 pounds. A final bid of $800 was received.
Reserve Champion: Kristen Ritchey with a goat weighing 142 pounds. A final bid of $825 was received.
Market Rabbits
Grand Champion: Zada Carr with a final bid of $650.
Reserve Champion: Bella Carr with a final bid of $450.
Laying Hens
Grand Champion: Rachel Hile with a final bid of $350.
Reserve Champion: Buck Yates with a final bid of $300.
Market Hogs
Grand Champion: Marlee Evans with a hog weighing 282 pounds. A final bid of $4.00 a pound was received for a total cost of $1,128.
Reserve Champion: MaKenna Evans with a hog weighing 276 pounds. A final bid of $3.25 was received for a total cost of $897.00.
