MOOREFIELD – The Mt. Lions traveled to #3 Moorefield last Friday September 18th. Tucker County got down early and could not slow down Moorefield to take the loss on the road 56-13.
The Yellowjackets received the opening kick and Will Schoonover caught the ball and raced 90 yards for a touchdown. The extra point kick was good to give Moorefield the lead 7-0 with 11:46 left in the first quarter. A 3 and out for the Tucker County offense gave the ball back to Moorefield. Moorefield then went back to work on offense. Shane Myers would then connect with Schoonover for a 74 yard screen pass with 8:14 left in the first to make the score 14-0 Yellowjackets. Schoonover would add another touchdown run in the first quarter with 2:24 from 58 yards out to up the score to 21-0 Moorefield.
Tucker County moved the ball in the second quarter, but they could not maintain a drive. Moorefield then struck again as Schoonover raced 73 yards for a touchdown with 11:31 left in the second quarter. The extra point kick was good to give Moorefield a 28-0 lead. Moorefield would add 2 more touchdowns before halftime. A 6 yard touchdown run by Caleb Kite and a 23 yard touchdown run by Shane Myers to make the halftime score Moorefield 41 Tucker County 0.
The Mt. Lions got the ball to start the second half, but they could not keep the drive going and Moorefield got the ball and went right to work. On the 4th play of the Yellowjackets drive Schoonover broke free for a 43 yard touchdown run with 9:23 left in the third to put Moorefield up 47-0. On the next Tucker County possession the Mt. Lions finally broke free for a score as Daniel Kisamore raced 43 yards for a touchdown with 8:28 left in the third. The PAT kick was good to make the score 47-7 Yellowjackets. Moorefield then put together a 7 play 51 yard drive that ended with a 25 yard field goal by Kevin Ramirez on 2nd down and 2 with 51 seconds left in the third quarter to up the score to 51-7 Moorefield.
In the fourth quarter the reserve players took over for both teams. Then with 5:29 left in the contest Luke Poling scored on a 22 yard touchdown run for Tucker County to make the score 50-13 Moorefield. The Yellowjackets reserves then got on the scoreboard with 1:43 left in the game on a 40 yard touchdown run by Trey Harvey to make the final score 56-13 Moorefield.
Tucker County was led by Daniel Kisamore with 18 carries for 71 yards rushing and 4 of 12 passing for 36 yards. Brett Reall added 11 carries for 25 yards for the Mt. Lions. Moorefield’s Will Schoonover finished the contest with 406 all-purpose yards. The Yellowjackets outgained Tucker County 558 to 118 in the game.
