Sunflower

This is a picture of Sunflower who played on WWVA and the Jamboree for a number of years.  Sunflower was born in Davis on October 23,1919 and her given name was Mary Calvas.( I have not been able to track that family name down.) The black haired, black eyed girl was known as “The girl with the sunny disposition”.  She was married to Cy William (Mio Smik), he was able to aptly play the fiddle and had feet moving when he played at square dances. Cy was a brother to Doc Williams who was a musician in his own right. Sunflower was five feet tall and weight around 128 lbs in the picture
