The friends of the Blackwater hosted the Backcountry Film Fest Friday, February 20th at White Grass. There was a strong attendance with 60 people turning out for the event.

The cafe was packed and the vibe was cozy. Chip Chase and Tom Rodd entertained the crowd as folks lined up for dinner. During intermission, Tucker United member Beth Boehme gave us on update on the group’s efforts thus far and elaborated on some of their organizing philosophies; Friends of Blackwater director Judy Rodd spoke of the threat posed by Corridor H’s ROPA route.

Following Beth and Judy’s speeches, there was a gift basket raffle – made up of 15 local businesses generously donated items. All in all, Friends of the Blackwater raised $2,500 to continue their work in Tucker County and spent the rest of the night celebrating with visitors and locals alike, what makes Tucker County so special.
