The Town of Davis has become the first municipality in Tucker County to pass a resolution opposing the proposed power plant and data center complex between Davis and Thomas, less than one mile from Davis. The resolution was passed on Thursday, May 29th following a presentation by Tucker United at the Davis Town Council the previous evening.
The Davis Town Hall was filled with members of the public and supporters of Tucker United for the presentation and resolution request by the group. Tucker United member Beth Boehme gave the presentation, accompanied by a slide show.
Davis Mayor Al Tomson has been a public opponent of the power plant and data center project since close to the beginning. At first, he supported the project, but soon after changed his position and has been one of the project’s most vocal opponents and has been interviewed in various media outlets, as well as one of the few people to have actually been able to speak with Fundamental Data’s Casey Chapman.
“I have personally taken a position on this power plant and data centers,” Tomson said. “I’m against it being built anywhere in Tucker County. I’ve been pretty vocal about that.”
The resolution formally opposes the construction of the proposed power plant and data center. It also urges the West Virginia Legislature, Governor Morrissey, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the Public Service Commission to. “immediately suspend and reject any permitting or support for this proposed project,” “Require a full and comprehensive environmental review, full transparency, and public disclosure of all anticipated impacts” and “Restore local governmental and community input and oversight in decisions that directly affect the health, safety, and future of Tucker County and its residents.”
The Town Council took no action on Wednesday evening. However, on Thursday, the Town Council voted to pass the Resolution.
