AREA COUNTIES HAVE BEEN AWARDED FEDERAL FUNDS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS)/FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY UNDER THE EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER NATIONAL BOARD PROGRAM.

The following have been chosen to receive funding to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in their respective counties through phase 41 of the program.

Marion County: $21,537

Randolph County: $11,727

Barbour County: $7,319

Taylor County: TBA

Tucker County: TBA

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; and the United Way of America. The Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.

Eligibility requirements include: 1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Agencies do not have to be a United Way agency to apply.

Agencies interested in applying for Phase 41 should visit the United Way website at http://tvuw.us/efsp. All applications are due by 5:00pm on Friday, April 19, 2024.
