Those trying to get to or from Elkins from Parsons on Highway 219 Wednesday, May 27th during the day’s rainstorm were in for a surprise or two. Several areas of the road were closed due to flooding, with some areas of the road seeing as much as four feet of water over the pavement. Drivers were diverted along Pheasant Mountain Road throughout the day. The Tucker County area also saw reports of downed trees and road closures going up the mountain, as well. A flash flood warning for the County was issued, driven by a slow moving storm that saw areas of rainfall in amounts of one to two inches per hour at times. Some residents were reporting up to seven or more inches of rain from the storm. Photo courtesy of Jessica Long.
