PRO On Trac will include a house tour through a unique home during the “Take a Stroll in Parsons” event on December 1, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 pm.  The home of Paul and Laura Mauzy will be the featured home this year.   Their home is so different, as it’s original plan was as commercial area.  The current structure suffered great damage during the flood; however, the concrete floor remained solid.  It was built by Eddie McDonald and John Gribble and designed to a be mini mall presuming a scenic railroad would be built as planned.  It has housed a variety of stores including a hardware store, thrift store, a pool room and teen center, among others.

The Mauzy’s have researched the site at the corner of First and Water Street.  Since the early 1800s this property has had structures that stood on it , and you will be able to see an older picture of the site on the tour.

According to Laura Mauzy, “the year we bought the building, we were looking for a photography studio, so we purchased it for that purpose. We joked that ‘someday’ we might take the shell upstairs and turn it into a studio apartment.”

Living in a warehouse

“We decided to move on the apartment idea after our house was sold,” Laura continued.   “We sat down one afternoon and sketched out a floor plan, and that’s when we decided to construct a 70’ steel porch utilizing some of the I-beams. Our apartment is 2500 square feet, with 3.5 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, and an open kitchen, dining and living room space.”

“Laura loves to decorate, and I know you’re all excited to see the uniqueness she will display in her Christmas decorations. Having a house tour in a warehouse is really cool,” according to Belva Dilly, Chairman of the PRO/On Trac event this year.  “We are all in for a treat.”

There is no cost to participate in the December 1st events sponsored by PRO/On Trac.
