The Monongahela National Forest is hiring for the upcoming recreation season and is encouraging local residents to apply. The Forest Service made the announcement February 13th.
“Seasonal employees are essential to keeping the Monongahela accessible and safe for our communities and visitors,” said Cynthia Sandeno, forest supervisor. “From maintaining campgrounds and trailheads to improving signage and responding to visitor needs, seasonal employees help ensure families can enjoy safe weekend camping trips, hikers can confidently navigate our trails, and everyone has a positive experience on their public land.”
The Forest Service is recruiting for a variety of positions including: Recreation and Visitors Services, Trail and Facility Maintenance and Timber Sale Preparation. All positions are in addition to seasonal fire hire events already underway.
The Forest Service said that bringing on seasonal employees will help to improve trails, campgrounds and facilities for safer, reliable and enjoyable recreation experiences for all, as well as a stepping stone to a career on natural resources.
“Seasonal jobs can be a first step into a natural resources career, a way to build experience, or simply a chance to spend the summer working outside,” added Sandeno. “These jobs directly support the recreation access and outdoor traditions that matter so much here in West Virginia. We encourage anyone interested to apply.”
Those interested in applying can view open job announcements and submit applications through USAJOBS.gov. All job announcements and descriptions will be available starting February 20th, according to the Forest Service.
Application periods, qualifications and start dates will vary by positions and applicants are encouraged to review job announcements carefully for deadlines and required materials.
