HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Keyser last Wednesday January 6th. The Mt. Lions battled the Golden Tornado’s back and forth in the fourth quarter to pick up the win 67-62.
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter as the action went back and forth and Keyser led 25-24 after one. Tucker County outscored the visitors 11-3 in the second quarter to lead 35-28 at the half.
The Mt. Lions outpaced the Tornado’s in the third 17-12 to build the lead to 52-42 after three quarters. Keyser fought back in the fourth quarter as they outscored Tucker County in the final quarter, but Tucker County held on to the victory 67-62.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 20 points, 7 rebounds and Ethan Crosten had 12 points. Kordell Fulton added 11 points and Skyler Humphrey had 7 points, 12 rebounds for Tucker County in the win. Keyser was led by Cam White with 16 points. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the victory also 61-50.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions Boys’ Basketball team hosted the #3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish last Friday January 8th for a Varsity only contest. The Irish got going early in the game and Tucker County was unable to overcome the bad start to fall in the contest 57-43.
Tucker County started the game slow as the Notre Dame defense caused the Mt. Lions problems and the visiting Irish led after one quarter 19-6. Tucker County fought back in the second quarter as they outscored Notre Dame 13-11 in the quarter to cut the Irish led to 30-19 at the half.
The Mt. Lions continued to chip away at the Notre Dame lead in the third as they outpaced the Irish 15-12 in the quarter and Notre Dame led 42-34 after three. Early in the fourth quarter Tucker County cut the Notre Dame lead to 5, but the Irish pushed their lead back to 10 and the visiting team made their foul shots down the stretch to hand the Mt. Lions their first loss of the season by the final score of 57-43.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 22 points, 13 rebounds and Ethan Crosten added 7 points. Skyler Humphrey scored 4 points and collected 7 rebounds in the loss for Tucker County. Notre Dame was led by Jared West with 23 points.
