Elkins, WV – Davis Medical Center (DMC) announces the addition of Dr. Walter C. Boardwine, orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Boardwine, a native West Virginian, says he’s pleased to return to the Mountain State to join the DMC surgical team.

“I like the small town environment here,” he said. “I’ve spent a lot of time over the years fishing and hunting in this region. It’s a great place and the people are very nice.” Dr. Boardwine grew up in the Fayetteville, WV area.

Boardwine worked as a mine foreman and electrical engineer after graduating from the West Virginia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. “Mining was unstable, so I applied to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine,” said Boardwine. “My plan was to go into family medicine, but my interest in engineering and bio-mechanics drew me to orthopedic surgery. I like the diversity of orthopedic care.”

After receiving his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, Dr. Boardwine completed his residency and clinical preceptorships in hand surgery, total joint arthroplasty, and geriatric medicine at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH.

He has been in practice for more than 30 years, and comes to DMC from the Grand Junction VA Medical Center in Grand Junction, CO. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and is a diplomate of the National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physician and Surgeons of U.S.A.

“Dr. Boardwine is a top-notch surgeon and will transition well into his new practice at DMC,” said Carl Nichols, V.P. of Physician Practices. “With his love of West Virginia and the outdoors, he already has much in common with many who live in our community.”

As an orthopedic surgeon Dr. Boardwine specializes in diseases and disorders of the muscles, ligaments and joints. His focus includes hand surgery, reconstruction and joint replacement, arthroscopy, and treatment of degenerative joint disease.

Dr. Boardwine’s office is located on the first floor of the Davis Medical Center Outpatient Center in Elkins. For more information or an appointment with Dr. Boardwine, please call 304.637.9302.
