City of Parsons Mayor Bruce Kolsun, not pictured, signed a declaration, declaring the Month of September to be Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. In observance, teal ribbons and decorations will be seen throughout the City.

The decorations will be supplied by the Turn the Towns Teal Campaign, a national campaign spearheaded locally by resident and ovarian cancer survivor Rosanne Bright. Bright’s mother Carol Precht, pictured left, was on hand at the August 5th City of Parsons Council meeting to accept the approximation from City Recorder Richard Lemons, pictured right.

“There are no tests for ovarian cancer so most of the time when it is detected, its in the later stages and the survival rate is not very good,” Precht said. “In 2025, there will probably be about 20,000 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and out of those 20,000 about 10,000 will not survive.”
