PARSONS – The streets are quiet and the carnival has moved on to its next location – nothing remains but memories of another fun week at the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department Homecoming Week. PVFD Chief Kevin White shared some of the winners during the week.
There were eight teams that participated in the 2016 Fireman’s Water Battle on Saturday. The event had eight teams battling for the win, despite the rainy weather. Teams from Parsons, Thomas, Tunnelton and Leading Creek worked to battle it out.
The first, second and third place winners for this year’s Fireman’s Water Battle were each teams from Parsons.
Also on Saturday was the feature parade. The best civic entry was awarded to the Tucker County Veterans and the best business entry went to 7th Street Dog Wash, first; and Shop ‘n Save, second. The best entry from a church went to the Hambleton Children’s Church.
In the feature parade, the best school entry was awarded to the Rubenstein Center. Touch of Class received first place in twirlette groups.
Winners in the fire apparatus went to Davis Volunteer Fire Department for the best appearing rescue truck; Coalton Volunteer Fire Department for the best appearing pumper truck; and Thomas Volunteer Fire Department for the best appearing tanker.
The fire department that traveled the farthest distance award was given to Marlinton Volunteer Fire Department and the oldest appearing unit awards went to Newburg Volunteer Fire Department. Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department won the Chief’s Choice award.
Winners in the Children’s Parade, held Thursday, and the Performance Motors Karaoke Showdown Friday will be published in the June 1 edition of the Parsons Advocate.
White said he wishes to once again thank the sponsors for the PVFD Homecoming Week including the City of Parsons, Parsons PRO ON TRAC, Tucker County Parks and Recreation Commission, the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department and Performance Motor Sales Inc.
