April is Sexual Assault Awareness month in tucker co, with the month being designated as Sexual Assault Awareness month. On April 16, 2024 was the Signing of the Proclamation with Left to Right – State Trooper C. Hawkins, Parsons City Mayor Bruce Kulson, Centers Against Violence, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate Kimberly Shaffer, Code Enforcement Officer R. Rosier and City Chief of Police K. Keplinger. Sexual violence affects every community in this nation – our neighbors, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. Sexual Assault effects individuals of any gender, race, age, culture, or socio-economic background. For many survivors, healing can take years, and for some, the pain never heals completely.  City of Parsons is an important partner in the Centers Against Violence vision to create a community where people thrive in safe and healthy relationships. Centers Against Violence provides safety, healing and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault through a range of services including secure shelter, court advocacy, counseling, and case management. Helping and supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Tucker Co also has a SART Team (Sexual Assault Response Team)  The Tucker Co SART Team mission statement is to improve communication and collaboration between agencies serving sexual assault survivors. To facilitate a community-based collaborative response to all victims of sexual assault by providing immediate and follow-up medical, advocacy and criminal justice services in an ethical and compassionate manner.

To provide comprehensive and compassionate care to survivors of sexual assault. The 1st responders’ actions and attitudes may be critical to the way in which the victim copes with trauma and to the length of time it may take to recover.

Proclaiming the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness month we encourage all citizens to learn about preventing violence.
