Tucker County Clerk - Grant 2016-2017Tucker County Clerk Sherry Simmons is commended for her efforts to enhance access to Tucker County’s public records, these improvements will provide better government service to constituents interested in the business and historical transactions of county government.
The Records Management and Preservation Board announced a grant award of $11,136.00 to Sherry Simmons, Tucker County Clerk. Beginning July 1, 2016.
The announcement was made by Director Joseph Geiger, Jr., of the Division of Culture and History for restoring, rebinding, and encapsulate copies of land books, programming birth books and updating the public computers to improve the management and preservation of the Tucker County records for the benefit of its citizens.
The County Clerk’s Office has established, proven system for electronic records that includes the creation and preservation of multiple copies and the use of off-site storage, and is maintained and monitored, with long term planning for software and hardware upgrades and data migration, to ensure that records are not lost or altered. They are widely used by the public for local deed work, history and genealogy.
Converting record into an electronic format through document imaging creates options. Public records are now available for search and retrieval by the general population.
“It is a labor of love when I write a grant, records management is a key driver of operational efficiency and offers significant business benefits.” “Implementing an effective records management program with digitizing records creates more value from a county government information asset while mitigating the risks associated with litigation, research, and disaster. I will continue the records preservation for the betterment of Tucker County”. Stated Simmons.
