The Tucker County Family Resource Network has started a new pilot program after being approached by a group of local residents. The group formed a program called “Tucker County Kids RISE”. According to a post by the TCFRN, project is designed to instill a love of snowsports and connect kids with caring adults and each other. The program began on 1/13/26 with 19 fourth grade students from Davis-Thomas Elementary Middle School. During the six sessions, the focus will be not only on basic ski and snowboard skills, but also on encouraging responsibility, independence and fostering healthy peer to peer social connections, the post said. The TCFRN has partnered with DTEMS, Timberline Mountain, The Town of Davis, and local businesses on the pilot program. This program was made possible through a grant from the Oakland Foundation and from generous donations, the post said. The group hopes to expand project and include more students in following years.
