CHARLESTON – A Tucker County paving project on WV 38 is among a list of 18 rehabilitation and bridge replacement project awards announced by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) on Tuesday, May 5th, following a bid letting conducted Tuesday, April 14th.
J.F. Allen Company was the low bidder on a paving project on WV 38, from Hobson Run to Clover Run Road, with a bid of $458,838.80. There is no word on when construction will begin on the project.
Factors that are considered when awarding a bid include: whether the bid falls above or below the WVDOH Engineer’s Estimate and by what percentage, according to the WVDOH. In cases where the bid is above the estimate, the WVDOH must consider the project’s needs, repercussions of not awarding the project, additional funding sources and whether sufficient reasons exist for the differences in estimates. Most projects are reviewed, analyzed and awarded within a week of bid letting, but the process can always take longer, the WVDOH said.
When a project is determined by the WVDOH to be best constructed by a contractor, the project is processed through the bid letting system, which is a scheduled opportunity for contractors to review.
“Our focus will remain on preserving our existing system, maintaining the roads and bridges that West Virginians count on every day and ensuring the safety of the traveling public and the strength of our workforce,” Todd Rumbaugh, State Transportation Secretary, said.
Work continues in all 55 WV counties. The West Virginia Division of Highways and the West Virginia Department of Transportation want to remind the public of the importance of safe driving in work zones.
“Safe actions save lives,” the entities said.
