West Virginia Caring to Hold 27th Annual Camp Caring

West Virginia Caring is holding its Annual Camp Caring, formerly Camp Nabe, on

Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Camp Mountaineer on 187 Camp Mountaineer Road, off

RT 119 in Morgantown, WV. The non-profit is accepting applications for campers who

would like to attend this year’s camp.

Since 1996, West Virginia Caring has held a grief and loss camp to support children in

West Virginia who has lost a loved one. It provides the child an opportunity to spend a

day with other children who have also experienced the death of a loved one. This one-

day camp is free of charge and is open to any child ages 6 – 14. Campers discover that

they can live life in a changed world with a new relationship to their loved one who has

died.

Camp Caring focuses on the unique grief process of children. Utilizing fun activities,

trained counsellors, art therapy, and large and small group activities, the camp

empowers each child to be able to express their grief and successfully cope with the

feelings of their loss.

The pain of a death affects the whole family. As adults, we often are at a loss at both

how to help the child we love who is hurting, and how to take time to heal ourselves.

WV Caring has grief workshops for the surviving adults in the child’s life. These

sessions will run at the same time as the children’s camp. The purpose is that each

family member is individually strengthened and supported so that the entire family can

move forward together on their journey of grief to a place of new normal.

If you have questions, would like more information on camp or to volunteer, call Sam

Leizear with West Virginia Caring on 1-304.599.4200 or email him at

sleizear@wvcaring.org. or https://www.wvcaring.org/camp-caring/

for applications and information.
