Washington, D.C. –U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today took questions from a group of Tucker County High School Advanced Placement government and politics students through Skype, a popular videoconferencing website. The students asked Senator Manchin questions about the Affordable Care Act, the state’s economic outlook, the Elk River chemical spill, energy production in West Virginia and the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act, legislation he introduced last year regarding background checks for gun sales.

“Our students are our future, and it’s incredibly important for me to hear from our students in West Virginia on a regular basis, even when I’m in Washington,” Senator Manchin said. “That’s why every week I look forward to my student Skype discussions. It is such a valuable opportunity to visit with our young people and to hear what’s on their minds so that I can share their ideas and concerns. I was very pleased to have a productive discussion today with the Tucker County High School students, and I look forward to visiting with them again soon.”

Senator Manchin participates in a weekly Skype session with a West Virginia school across the state and answers students’ questions on a variety of topics.
