The first Board of Education meeting of September and the 2017-2018 school year was held in Parsons on Tuesday, September 5.

The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.  There was no agenda or addenda to be approved, nor were there presentations to start the meeting.

The President of the Board, Tim Turner, proclaimed September as Attendance Awareness Month.  “We are very committed to that,” Turner said.

Superintendent, Dr. Eddie R. Campbell, Jr., recommended the approval of the payment of bills, the acknowledgment of two students’ intent to homeschool, as well as the use of school buses for two private events.

The bills equaled $205,892.14.  There were no budget adjustments or student transfer requests to approve.

The Board also approved the transfers of Valerie Eye from Virtual Coordinator/Computer Science to 4th grade at DTEMS and Amanda Kisamore from Elementary/Specials Teacher to Virtual Coordinator/Computer Science at DTEMS.

The Board approved the hiring of Judy Pitzer as the girls basketball coach at DTEMS, Roxcella Owens as a Transportation Aide, and Lauren Hicks as a mentor teacher at DTEMS.

Bleachers are currently being installed in the DTEMS gym.  The Board predicts the bleachers will be fully installed by the beginning of basketball season, December 1.  A new composite floor was completed in the DTEMS gym this summer.

The TCHS Cross Country Team will travel to Hersey, Pa. this month for a team-building trip.  The team paid for this trip through fundraising efforts.

Upcoming events include a LSIC meeting at 4:30 p.m. at TCHS on September 21 and a Veteran’s Day Program at 10 a.m. at TVEMS on November 9.  November 7 will be a full day of instruction.

The next board meeting will be held on Monday, September 18, at 4:30 in the Board of Education Office, 100 Education Lane, Parsons.
