Joyce Lynn Barr Shahan

Joyce Lynn Barr Shahan, age 69 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Sunday, September 3, 2017 at her home.  She had been in her usual health, however death was unexpected.


She was born Wednesday, June 23, 1948 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late Virgil Clyde and Eula Maxine Cummings Barr.  She was previously married to Russell George Shahan, who survives at Pheasant Run, Kerens, WV.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey David Shahan of Parsons, Jason Virgil Shahan and wife Amy of Montrose; two daughters, Courtney Lynn Lawrence and husband Michael of Porterwood and Kimberly Leigh McCrum and husband Andy of Parsons; one sister, Barbara Ann Watring and husband Frank of Old Fort, NC; and six grandchildren, Rylee, Jayson, Coleton, Ethan, Caitlyn and Charlee.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1966.  She was a former employee at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.  She was owner and operator of the former Parsons Texaco, the former Shop-n-Go and the former Village Fashions, all at Parsons.  She was a former employee of the Potomac Highland Support Services and retired from the Burlington United Methodist Children’s Services.  She attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood, was a member of the Community Education Outreach Services and a volunteer for the Tucker County 4-H.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Shahan’s request for cremation was honored.  The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 10 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour.  The Rev. James Snyder officiated and inurnment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Joyce Lynn Barr Shahan.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
