Tiny Llama to supply creative needs

A slice of the supplies that will hit the shelves at Tiny Llama

With the hopes of fueling the artistic culture in Thomas and Tucker County at large with affordable art supplies, Tiny Llama will open up shop on Art Spring weekend; another addition to a weekend already stacked to showcase this area’s artistic power.

Cara Parrish is the owner of the business, as well as the creator of the idea that blossomed into Tiny Llama.  “I was noticing the need for things to be reused, mainly,” Parrish said.  “I could say the idea came from there being so many creative people around here, and there is a lack of resources.”

Parrish’s creative knack is fiber art.  Parrish mentioned that she often struggles to find supplies within a reasonable driving distance.  Artists often want to see supplies in person or support local businesses, instead of purchasing materials online.

Tiny Llama aims to combat that problem by bringing supplies to Thomas.  The shop will reside within Lamplight Gallery.

“It’s kind of the same idea as Goodwill but these are items that even Goodwill might not take, like a half use tube of paint,” Parrish said.  “Hopefully, I’m hitting people at a good time now, which is spring cleaning, and they’re getting rid of things, like that project that has been sitting in the corner for months that they probably won’t get to it.”

The store’s provisions will also include new materials, including office supplies.  In addition to the staples, Parrish wants people to be able to find one of a kind supplies.  “I’m hoping people will find unique things that they won’t be able to find elsewhere that will kind of ignite a creative idea.”

Parrish intends for her business to appeal to the professional and hobbyist artist.  “I’ll be catering to anyone who wants to tap into creativity.  You don’t have to be a professional artist, it’s more of a means of expression,” she said.

Tiny Llama’s long-term plans include art contests, classes, and furthering community connections.

Tiny Llama donations are starting to amass at Cottrill’s Opera House.  If you are interested in donating, drop off your supplies at the Opera House Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Visittinyllama.org to see a detailed list of items and Parrish’s contact information.
