The Tucker County Veterans Association spent Friday, August 2, 2013 collecting funds for two county food Pantries.  The local veterans raised enough money to be able to donate $1,000 to both the Blackwater Ministerial Association Food Pantry which assists households in Thomas, Davis, Canaan Valley and other areas on the mountain including Harman and to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry which assists households in Parsons, Hambleton, Hendricks, St. George and other areas in the lower part of the county.
Bobby Phillips speaking on behalf of the veterans said, “ The FUMC Food Bank is currently assisting about 140 households.”  Veronica Staron speaking on behalf of the Blackwater Ministerial Association Food Pantry said, “We assisted 46 households just yesterday (Aug. 7).”  Phillips stated that he wished they had been able to raise more but was very happy that the veterans were able to assist with a much needed charitable organization.
A check was presented to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry recently. A check was also presented to Veronica Staron of the Blackwater Ministerial Association Food Pantry.
