Arlene Marie Bodkins Bunnell Deets

Arlene Marie Bodkins Bunnell Deets, age 96 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life late Tuesday evening, February 20, 2024, at the WV Caring Hospice Center at Elkins, WV.  She had been in declining health for the past three weeks. 

She was born Tuesday, October 25, 1927, at Norton, WV, a daughter of the late Oscar and Jessie Lee Sponaugle Bodkins.  She was twice married, first on July 9, 1947, to Virgil Randolph Bunnell, who preceded her in death September 28, 1956, and second on February 10, 1982, to Carl Ray Deets, who preceded her in death August 17, 1989.

Surviving are two sons, Jackson Bunnell and wife Linda of Gulf Breeze, FL, and William Randolph Bunnell and wife DeeDee of Parsons, WV; two daughters, Vickie Mae Mason and husband Tom and Anna Marie Pitzer and husband Buddy, all of Parsons, WV; ten grandchildren, Randy Bunnell and wife Erica, Robbie Bunnell, Tommy Bunnell and wife Shelley, Casey Suder and husband Chad, Todd Bunnell and wife Jennifer, Josh Bunnell and wife Chanda, Dillon Bunnell and wife Deven, Michael McCrum, Kelly Newman and husband Jay and Heidi Pitzer; three step grandchildren, Carrie Allender, Eric McCrum and James Burger; several great and great great  grandchildren, and step great and great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, who she thought of as her own and was referred to as Aunt Peewee.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Terry Allen Bunnell; one brother Lawrence Bodkin; and two sisters, Lucille Simmons and Hilda Williams.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1947 and worked at the former Hills restaurant, Tucker County Hospital and Propst Enterprises.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Parsons Church of God.  She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed crocheting, reading, and working jigsaw puzzles.  Her home was always open to family and friends.  She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 11 a.m.  The Reverend Todd Rhodes and Reverend Carolyn Shreve officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Arlene Marie Bodkins Bunnell Deets.
