Barbara “Granny Kay” Alkire

Barbara “Granny Kay” Alkire, 81, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Garrett Regional Medical Center.

Kay was born in Parsons on Sunday, June 18, 1944, a daughter of the late Willard “Bill” Wilson and Sarah Eleanor Hornbeck Wilson. On June 17, 1961, in Parsons, she married Franklin Daris Alkire, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-four years of marriage.

Also left to cherish Kay’s memory are tow sons, JD Alkire and wife, Ruth, and Eric Alkire and wife, Michelle, five grandchildren, Jordan Alkire, Chase Alkire and fiancé, Taylor Nevils, and Bryce Alkire and girlfriend, Madelyn Beale, Shannon Miller, and Robbie Toth, three great-grandchildren, Zane Miller, Matthew Toth, and Ethan Toth.

Preceding Kay in death in addition to her parents were two sisters, Eunice Jane Martin and Lenora Ann Wilson.

Kay was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1962. She was employed with the Supreme Court of the State of West Virginia as a Magistrate Assistant for twenty-eight years. Kay had attended the St. Johns Methodist Church.

Kay’s request for cremation will be honored. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Kay Alkire to Tucker County Athletic Dept., 116 Mt. Lion Way, Hambleton, WV 26269. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Barbara “Granny Kay” Alkier.
