CHARLES EDWARD “CHARLIE” EYE

CHARLES EDWARD “CHARLIE” EYE, age 86 years, a resident of the Holly Meadows Community, Parsons, WV passed away Sunday morning, March 3, 2019 in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD, following a brief illness sustained from a fall.


Charlie was born Wednesday, May 11, 1932 at Hambleton, WV, a son of the late Edward Otha and Ruth Elizabeth Fansler Eye.   On July 22, 1961 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Maxine Connie Helmick, who survives.

Also left to cherish Charlie’s memory is his daughter, Denise Michelle and husband, David “Shotgun” Leary; his grandson, the light of his life, Tanner Seth Leary; and a step-granddaughter, Jody Auman and husband Jeff of Marietta, OH; nieces and nephews, Jackie Cale and husband Jerry, Eric Mullenax and  wife Kim, Gwen Gilbert and husband Jim, Rebecca Dempsey and husband Jason, and Steve Eye and wife Diane; and several great nieces and nephews.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother, Burrell David Eye; and one sister, Orlen Lydia (Lester) Mullenax; nephew, David “Eyeball” Eye; and great nephew, Brent Eye.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1951, where he lettered in football and basketball.   He worked for the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD for about twenty years, until its closing.  He was retired from the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, where he worked as a carpenter.  He was retired from the United States Naval Reserve, where he was an aircraft mechanic and traveled extensively for thirty-two years.  Charlie was part owner and operator of Cheat River Alpacas for several years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and his favorite past time was the time he spent with his grandson and caring for his horses.   He was a Veteran of the United States Navy for thirty-two years.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m.   The Reverend James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for CHARLES EDWARD “CHARLIE” EYE.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
