Charles W. Hershman, Sr., 89, of Parsons and formerly of Rowlesburg died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Mansfield Place in Philippi with family by his side.
He was born March 26, 1925, in Rowlesburg, a son of the late John Wesley and Etta Funk Hershman.
He was a timberman, worked as an aide at Hopemont State Hospital and for the WV Department of Highways. He was a member of the Flag Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Charles W. Hershman, Jr. of Beaver Dam, KY and Roy D. Hershman of Tunnelton; two daughters, Phyllis Sponaugle of Parsons and Shirley Travis of Rowlesburg; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren including Debbie; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Hershman in 2003, his son, Franklin Hershman; nine brothers and sisters and a great-granddaughter.
Family and friends called at the Browning Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, Rowlesburg from 4-8 pm Friday, April 18, 2014. On Saturday, April 19, 2014, Mr. Hershman was moved to the Flag Chapel United Methodist Church to lie in repose from 12 noon till 1 p.m. the funeral hour with Reverend Harley DeLeurere and Mr. Justin Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Flag Chapel Cemetery.
