Charles HarperCharles William Harper, age 81 years, a resident of Hambleton, WV departed this life Saturday morning, December 31, 2016 at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center surrounded by his loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring. 

He was born Saturday, September 28, 1935 at Whitmer, WV, a son of the late Oscar William and Mary Jane Thompson Harper. On April 21, 1961 at Harman, WV, he was married to the former Wanda Dale Mullins, who preceded him in death March 29, 2012.  They had celebrated fifty years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Charles William “Chuck” Harper, II and wife Cindy of Elkins, WV; two daughters, Sheryl Lynn Grant of Grottoes, VA and Anita Jo Roy and husband Denver of Parsons, WV; three brothers, James O. Harper, Roy A. Harper and Roger L. Harper; two sisters, Joyce C. Varner and Mary E. Delany; five grandchildren Timmy, Shandi, Courtney, Skyler and Montana; and three great grandchildren, Katelynn, Sierra and Gage.

Preceding him in death are one brother, Ralph A. Harper; three sisters, Bernice Hamrick, Elsie Harper and Madaline Kirkpatrick.

He attended the schools of Randolph County.  He was an employee of the former Mongold Lumber Company of Elkins, a former employee of the Mt. Storm Power Plant, working construction and he worked and helped many people in the Whitmer area on various farms.  He attended the Whitmer Church of God.   

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.  On Wednesday morning, January 4, 2017, Mr. Harper will be moved to the Church of God at Whitmer, where friends may call from 12 noon until 1 p,m,, the funeral hour.  Pastor James Purnell will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Charles William Harper.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
