Darl Franklin Pine, age 77 years, a resident of Parsons, WV and a former two term Sheriff of Tucker Co, departed this life early Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born Thursday, May 7, 1936 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Norman Asbury and Dove Florney Lufflin Pine. On August 22, 1958 at Parsons, he was married to the former Katherine Louise Poling, who survives. They had celebrated fifty five years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis James Pine and wife Patty of Belington and Darrel Allen Pine and wife Maricca of Mabie; one daughter, Darlene Louise Lambert and husband Thomas of Elkins; one sister, Margaret Alice Arnold of Cortland Acres, Thomas; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley, Jonathan, Travis, David, Kevin, Jessica, Josh and Lacy; and three great grandchildren, Joshua, Kaylin and Aiden.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Marvin James Pine and Clifford “Tip” Pine.
He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an employee of the former Parsons Handle Factory, the Dept. of Highways for the State of WV, the former Parsons Woolen Mill, where he was Supervisor until its closing; he was an employee of the former Lambert Chevrolet-Suzuki. He was the owner and operator of Parsons Indian Sales and Repairs. He was a two term Sheriff of Tucker Co. from 1977 thru 1984. He served as former Chief of Police of Parsons and he retired after eight years of service from the WV Children’s Home. He was a member of the Gideon’s, the First United Methodist Church of Parsons, and a member of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a volunteer with the Grandparent Program of Tucker Co., and a volunteer reserve Deputy of Parsons, where he escorted funerals for the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday. On Friday morning, May 9, 2014, Mr. Pine was moved to the First United Methodist Church of Parsons, where friends called from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Darl Franklin Pine.
