David Warren Harper, 75, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Dry Fork, WV, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at his home.


 Born on May 7, 1943 in Dry Fork, WV, he was a son of the late Albert J. and Gladys G. (Smith) Harper. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Harper Curtis.

When in WV he taught driver’s education at East Fairmont High School, Fairmont, WV and was the Associate Director for Insurance and Risk Management at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dr. Nancy Valentine Harper; his devoted children, Stacia J. Harper and Christopher D. Harper, both of Morgantown, WV; two sisters, Collene Harper Eyth and husband Victor of Mentor, OH and Phyllis Harper Nelson and husband Don of Accokeek, MD; a brother, Harold Harper and wife Carol of Akron, OH; nine nieces and nephews, Susan (Eyth) Szanyi, David Eyth, Daliene Shafer, Sharon Curtis, Keith Curtis, Julie Steele, Clara Fitzgerald, Charlie Harper and Laura (Harper) Atherton and several grand nieces and nephews.  The marriage to his first wife, Karen J. Vance Harper Dorton, also formerly of Dry Fork, WV and currently in Morgantown, WV ended in divorce.

The family received friends at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, Davis, WV on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral service was conducted at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11a.m. The family also received friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Harper Family Cemetery, Harman, WV. Following the graveside service a fellowship meal will be provided for family and friends by the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church Women’s Ministry with the location of the meal to be announced at the church and graveside service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Harper Cemetery Association, c/o Eleanor Harper Nestor, 7936 Dry Fork Road, Hendricks, WV 26271 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
