dcgDonald Cline Gnegy, 83, of Hambleton, WV passed away November 25, 2015 at Our Lady of the Valley Retirement Community in Roanoke, VA.

He was born December 23, 1931, at Davis, a son of the late Walter Cline and Annie Hill Forsythe Gnegy.

He was one of the first in his family to gain both a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and a master’s degree from Penn State University. He served his country in the US Army. Don retired after 30 years of service from the US Department of Agriculture. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 936, both in Davis, WV. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish.

Family lovingly remembering him are his wife of sixty years, Bernettie Gnegy of Hambleton, WV; daughters Donna (Chuck) Spradlin of Troutville, Va. and Debbie (Mike) Graham; two granddaughters, Tina and Michelle Graham; one great-grandson, Jase Carbaugh all of Blacksburg, VA and two sisters, Jean Illari of Finksburg, Md., and Ruth Ujcic of Hanover, Pa.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Jack, and Edwin; and sisters, Clara Gnegy and Lenora Spiggle.

Those who know Don know he could often be found working on projects at his church and at home. The family requests that memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the Eagles scholarship fund of the Tucker County Endowment Foundation.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Friday, December 4, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Davis, WV with the Rev. Ruth Bullwinkle officiating.
