Edward Lee “Eddie” McDonald, age 78 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Tuesday morning, March 1, 2016 at his home. He had been in declining health, however death was unexpected.
He was born Sunday, September 19, 1937 at Parsons, WV a son of the late James Britton McDonald and Helen May Wilson McDonald Dix. On August 3, 1957 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Deloris Mae Stevens, who survives. They had celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, James Willard “Crobar” McDonald and companion Deanna Armstrong of Fairmont; two daughters, Teresa Ellen Schonk and husband Edward “Ed” of Perry Hall, MD and Leana Marie Johnson and husband John of Parsons; one brother Kenneth Paul McDonald of Felton, PA; one half brother, William Edward Dix and wife Jen of Stewartstown, PA; one sister, Mary Belle McDonald of New Freedom, MD; two half-sisters, Catherine Kiser of Shrewsbury, PA and Ellen Urey of Red Lion, PA; five grandchildren, Trisha Diane Smith and husband Bobby, E. Peter Schonk, Lauren Nicole Whitehair, Mallory Danielle Schonk and Shannon Marie Whitehair; and three great grandchildren, Myka Rein Smith, Ryker Lee Smith, and Averi Shae Abbott (born March 1, 2016); and his beloved dog, Diesel.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Willard James McDonald and Jesse McDonald; one sister, Sarah Frances McDonald; and one half-sister, Rebecca Ann Delaney.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1955, where he played on the Basketball and Football teams and was an All-State Football Player. He was a former employee of the Paul Jones Distillery as a whisky taster in Baltimore, MD. He returned to Parsons in 1959 and started as a teller at the Tucker County Bank. He advanced to the level of Vice President and became certified by the WV Bankers Association. He then served as President of the National Bank of Davis until 1988. He then became an independent real estate appraiser until September of 2015. He was on the Board of Directors of Cortland Acres for thirty-three years and a former member of the Tucker County Board of Education and a former City Councilman. He was a fifty-year member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, WV. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Parsons. He was a basketball and football referee and formerly played men softball. He was an avid sports fan and follower of all local teams.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, WV on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March, 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Philip Dent officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. conducted ritualistic services.
