Frank Ashby, age 90 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, May 14, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health.
He was born Wednesday, October 6, 1926 at Rowlesburg, WV, a son of the late Frank Edgar and Dora Mae Britton Ashby. On December 25, 1949 at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Otta Sue Hedrick, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Carl Lee Ashby of Parsons; two daughters, Dianna Lynn Walker and husband Rick of Conneaut, OH and Kimberly Hope Snyder and husband Henry of Hambleton; seven grandchildren, Pamela Beck and husband Steven, Jason Walker and wife Jessica, Jessica Mehu and husband Maquindes, Susan Wadsworth, Melissa Walker, Blake Snyder and Matraca Roetruck and husband Tommy; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are a grandson, Carl Ashby. Jr.; daughter in law, Patricia Ann Tuttle Ashby; two brothers, Kenneth Ashby and an infant; and one sister, Hellen Dotson.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1943. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parsons. During 1952, he and his wife moved to Ohio and worked for the Olin Chemical Company in Ohio and then was transferred to Louisiana, working as the Supervisor of Chemical Operations, retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Parsons in 1990. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working on his farm and being outside. He loved spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church at Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the church on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10 a.m.
The Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV, where the West Virginia National Guard Army Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
