After a recent decline in health, Grant King, age 90, passed peacefully into eternal life in the early morning hours of April 30, 2016, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, MD. He was a resident of Addison, PA and formerly of Grafton, WV.
Born November 13, 1925, in Kempton, MD, he was the son of the late Enoch Grant and Lucretia (Stalnaker) King. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Parsons) King, August 10, 2010; two brothers, Charles and Paul King and three sisters, Edna King, Mary Scott and Gladys Upton.
Mr. King was a retired Mine Inspector for the State of West Virginia. He was a member of State Line United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Pythagoras Lodge # 128, F & AM, Parsons, WV; Scottish Rite, Valley of Wheeling; Osiris Shrine, Wheeling; Past Patron of Naomi Chapter #12, OES, Grafton; and Past Patron of Chester Chapter OES, Chester, WV. Grant was also Past President of the National Mine Rescue Association and was a US Navy veteran of WW 2.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine L. “Kitty” Prince and husband, Thomas R., Addison, PA; two granddaughters, Heather Togbetse and husband, Madio, Ellerslie, MD; Bernadette Oursler and husband, Justin, Berkeley Springs, WV and two great grandsons, Garrett and Cole Oursler.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, on Monday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Services were conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Theodore Bessey, Pastor officiating. Interment was in Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons, WV.
